Gates and finialsantiquegates are beautifully decorative – a small gate, left adjar between sections of a garden, will entice visitors to see what’s beyond. Finials are architectural features in their own right, providing ornamentation, typically on the top of gate posts or at the apex of a roof. They can be stone, marble or metal (the latter also acting as lightning rods.) Limestone ball finials are also popular as decorative features either side of steps or paths.
