At over 3ft tall, a stunningly large 19th century composition stone pineapple is fixed to a carved stone base from the same period. Both well-weathered.
Although commonplace today, pineapples were originally only seen in England in the 17th and early 18th century. Highly prized and hugely expensive, the pineapple came to be seen as a symbol of prestige and luxury which is why it will often be seen in antiques of the period to denote wealth and status to its owner.
